    Grade 1 PREP

    Jesus Christ
    During this year, you'll discover how we are made by God. He gives us the gifts of his creation. You can know God through his Son, Jesus, and the Bible. Jesus is the Son of God who loves you and shows you how to love the father and one another. We also know God through our families and the Church. Jesus is with his church always, and the Holy Spirit is always guiding and helping us.



    February- Unit 5 Morality
    Chapter 13 “Disciples Serve”
    This chapter identifies a disciple as a follower of Jesus who believes in him, lives by his teaching, and connects serving others with serving God.

    Chapter 14 “Making Choices”
    This chapter explains free will as a gift from God and the Ten Commandments as God’s Laws that tell us how to love God and others.


    Chapter 15 “Showing Sorrow”
    This chapter explains the consequences of sin and our need for God’s forgiveness.


    ​January- Unit 4 The Church

    Chapter 10 "Responding to God"
    This chapter examines the story of Noah and how Catholics say “yes” to God and describes the Kingdom of God as the world of love, peace, and justice that is in Heaven and is still being built on Earth.

    Chapter 11 "The Church’s Guide"
    This chapter explores Jesus’ promise to send the Holy Spirit- the Third Divine Person of the Holy Trinity- to guide the Church.

    Chapter 12 "Friends of God"
    This chapter explains how Saints are people who loved God very much, did his work on Earth, and are with him in Heaven.

    December- Unit 3 Jesus Christ
    Chapter 7 "Jesus the Healer"
    This chapter is about how Jesus healed people who were sick and cared for those who were lonely;
    he asks us to help others who are sick and sad.


    Chapter 8 "Jesus Teaches Love"
    This chapter explains that a Commandment is a law God made for people to obey, and that we are called to love God and others.

    Chapter 9 "Jesus teaches us to pray"
    This chapter describes the ways and reasons we pray and introduces the words and meaning of the Lord’s Prayer.

    November- Unit 2 Trinity
    Chapter 4 "The Holy Trinity"
    This chapter introduces the Holy Trinity, the one God in three Divine Persons, and explains each Divine Person of God, what they do, and how they relate to one another.

    Chapter 5 "The Holy Family"
    This chapter focuses on God’s love for all families and the things the Holy Family did or could have done together. 

    Chapter 6 "About the Bible"
    This chapter teaches about the Bible, the holy book of the Church and its two parts- the Old Testament and the New Testament- that contain stories about God and his love for us.

    October- Unit 1 Revelation
    Chapter 1 "Created by God" 

    This chapter teaches about God’s gift of creation and his love for us. He made us to know and love him.

    Chapter 2 "God's Gifts for Us"

    This chapter explores how God gives us what we need to live and be happy. We can thank God for his gifts in many ways.

    Chapter 3 "Made to Care"
    This chapter explains what it means to be made in God's image and how people have a special role in taking care of creation.
