2024 Lenten Devotions at Nativity
Lent is a time to go into the desert with Jesus, fasting and praying for 40 days.
Please see the schedule below and prayerfully consider what you and your loved ones will do to grow closer to the Lord this Lent, whether you feel drawn to more prayer time in the Adoration Chapel or a formation series to strengthen your understanding of the faith. We especially encourage you to come to the beautiful Sacrament of Confession. Jesus waits for you patiently and lovingly. He longs to heal your heart, mind, and soul! |
Fasting and Abstinence Requirements
As a reminder, Catholics are required to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and Fridays in Lent.
Adults age 18 to 59 are obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. When fasting, a person is permitted one full meal as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to the full meal. Pregnant or nursing women and those who are physically or mentally ill, including those suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes, are exempt from the fasting requirements. See the USCCB's website for more information:

Lenten Faith Formation Series: Forgiven
“How comfortable are you with Confession?” Are you fine with it? Or do you stay away: because of embarrassment, because you’re not sure what to say, because you don’t see the need. There is help for all these. Please consider attending a new faith-formation series this Lent: Forgiven. Forgiven is a video-based series on the Sacrament of Reconciliation which will be presented on successive Mondays starting February 26. Sessions at both 10 AM and 6:30 PM will be offered each week in the Conference Room. Individual participant study guides will be provided. No advance sign-up is needed. A 2-minute video trailer about Forgiven can be found at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUDA3gEV21c&t=4s |

Lessons in Spirituality
Sunday, February 25, 1:00pm to 2:15pm in the Parish Center Lessons in Spirituality is a new monthly group for those interested in going deeper in their Catholic faith and spirituality. Our host, Marie (Mitzi) Miller, recently presented at our Advent retreat and noticed that people want to deepen their faith and learn how to incorporate it into their daily lives and struggles. The first session will cover what it means to grow in your relationship with God. Any questions, contact Amy: [email protected]. |
Poor Box Donations
This year, the Poor Box donations will go to the Catholic Relief Services' Rice Bowl, a program that alleviates hunger and poverty around the world. When you give to Rice Bowl, 75% of your donation supports CRS' work around the world, and 25% stays in our diocese to fight hunger here in our community. Please prayerfully consider what you can give this year. CRS suggests donating the money you save from eating meatless on Fridays in Lent - a wonderful way to unite your fasting and almsgiving practices!
